1965 Bentley S3 Continental 'Flying Spur'
In the post World War II era, the Bentley continental was the world's finest sports touring machine. It was a car that was as luxurious as a Rolls Royce, but with a sporty flare that Bentley was known for. Initially equipped with the fine overhead valve straight six cylinder engine, in the fall of 1959 the trusty six was replaced with the introduction of the 6.2 liter aluminum V8, the same that was used in Rolls Royces Cloud. Although much wider than the six cylinder, the V8 fit into the Continental engine compartment with little modification. The S3 came later in 1962, the most sought after iteration, easily recognizable with its handsome four headlight configuration.
Initially the Continental was envisioned to be only a two door, but to introduce practicality a four door version was put into play designed by Rolls Royce's in-house design firm H.J. Mulliner. Very similar to some previous custom designs by Mulliner and proportions of a two door, the four door 'Flying Spur' was a fantastic car and one of the best looking and most practical Continentals of them all.
Offered here is the very last S3 Flying Spur produced of the original 16 left hand drive cars produced. On top of that it is one of few with factory Jet Star airconditioning. It's a beautifully restored example, restored by Vantage Motorworks in 2008 and finished in its original colors of Tudor Grey paired with a beige leather interior. Mechanically it's extremely well sorted and its matching numbers V8 engine runs and drives incredibly well. Power steering and its Rolls Royce (GM) automatic transmission make it a pleasure to drive. This car is complete with factory build sheets, service records and road tools. Please contact us for more information.
