1921 Brewster Double Enclosed Drive
Brewster was a very well respected coachbuilder from the time of horse drawn carriages and well into the era of the automobile. Early on they provided coachwork for some of the most luxurious and high quality cars especially of European origin, most famously Rolls Royce chassis and especially in the time of the Springfield Rolls Royce. Although, during World War I Brewster lost their supply of high quality European chassis so they were forced to evolve which resulted in them creating their own high quality chassis featuring their own wonderful coachwork and a knight sleeve valve 4 cylinder engine. They were very good quality and marketed as a luxurious automobile for transportation in cities. They were just as expensive as a Rolls Royce and marketed to the worlds elite. They are most famous for their round radiator and hood shape. Most of the Brewster car built were in open front town car form, but enclosed sedans and even roadsters were offered as well, but seldom seen.
Offered here is a wonderful and amazingly original 1921 Brewster double enclosed drive that has been incredibly well preserved and with wonderful provenance. Found on an estate in Long Island 20 years ago where it was stored since the 1950’s. Originally sold to and used in Newport, Rhode Island by the Auchincloss family, famously the father and step father of Jackie Kennedy. Later owned by Frank E. Wismer who featured it on the cover of his book: An Inkling of Brewster. A fantastically well preserved Brewster with its original knight sleeve valve 4 cylinder engine running strong.
